George
Oros, 54, serves as the Westchester County Legislator for District
One. Elected in 1995 in a Special Election, he served as chairman
of the board from 1996 to 1997 and has been Minority Leader of the
Republican Caucus for four of the last five years.
During his 12 years in county office, George has been steadfast in
fighting for fiscal reform when reviewing contracts and budgets. He
is a proven tax cutter who was instrumental in removing an unfair
County sewer tax that thousands of residents in Yorktown and Cortlandt
were paying even though they had no sewers.
In addition, he has successfully introduced several reform measures
to increase budgetary accountability.
George’s district, which includes northern Yorktown, northern
Cortlandt and Peekskill, received the highest percentage of federal
funds this year from the Community Development Block Grant Program.
Those funds were used for a wide variety of projects throughout the
district.
Prior to serving on the County board, George was an active member
of the Cortlandt community, including serving as town councilman (1991-1995),
chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals, chairman of the Bi-Centennial
Committee. and assistant to the town attorney. He also co-founded
the Heritage Foundation, a historical organization in Cortlandt. He
has coached Little League.
George serves on the Board of Directors of Hudson Valley Hospital
Center and formerly served on the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of
Commerce’s Executive Board.
A graduate of Pace University Pleasantville with a BBA, George graduated
Pace Law School after attending evenings while working full time for
Pace. He married the former Marianne Baggini and together they have
two teenage children John and Christina. George is a partner in the
law firm of Brotmann, Oros and Brusca with offices in White Plains,
He resides in Cortlandt Manor with his family.
